I am convinced that a regular dose of gardening would eliminate so many evils caused by idleness and lack of sense of usefulness. Though I not necessarily always agree with Voltaire's philosophy I do back up this statement of his: “We must cultivate our own garden. When man was put in the garden of Eden he was put there so that he should work, which proves that man was not born to rest.” Growing our own food gives a sense of satisfaction, usefulness and also teaches big lessons which we can apply everywhere.
Audrey Hepburn said that the gardening is the greatest tonic and therapy a human being can have and that even if we have only a tiny piece of earth, we can create something beautiful, which we all have a great need for. And that applies for the kitchen as well. Some of us grew up mastering the art of patisserie and rich cooking. But we don't have to serve haute cuisine on our tables.
Simple and fresh ingredients( high quality) prepared with a common sense are the best building materials for our bodies.
Curnonsky ( the Prince of Gastronomy) always advocated for "simple food over complicated, rustic over refined," and often repeated"Et surtout, faites simple!"(And above all, keep it simple.)
